You mean to tell me that a man who lands the law career of a lifetime wouldn't have a ton of money invested, can't forecast his future income (with a new job that pays high-$200k/yr), and shouldn't pay off a huge financial burden to avoid paying the banks years and years of interest?

Pat finds it far-fetched to pay off a mortgage when you have the means to do so.

It could be that all of his investments are about to be moved into a blind trust to avoid conflict of interest issues. If that's the case, why not liquidate your holdings in [embarrassing or un-PC stock] beforehand and dump it into your mortgage?
