Billy Squire made this video and didn't realize it was faggy until after he watched it

Honestly what the fuck is it with musicians being as faggy as possible then becoming extremely defensive at being labelled gay. Prince walked around in assless chaps doing everything BUT sucking cock but was incensed at being labelled gay and did not like fags. At least Bowie was actually a fag.

I mean, it is a baaaad fucking video but actually a good jam if you just are listening to it. Don't Say No is one of the great rock records ever and he still gets no real cred for it, because of this video like 5 years later. It's crazy. This lady that was working at a show of his that I know told me dad that after seeing him backstage and such that he's gay. I don't know if she elaborated on what she saw to him but that's what it got filtered down to for me. I was 12, he wouldn't have told me if she saw him getting blown by a dude. Having that in my mind made me start thinking about the lyrics to In The Dark and some other stuff in a different way. Thing is they are still such great songs, it doesn't matter if he's singing about being in the closet.

It's also odd because, while quite faggy, most rock bands were dipping heavily into homo around that time and almost none of them ate the same amount of shit he did.

Which suggests he thought that floating around like a homosexual affected with GRID was up until that point completely normal.

Also he looks like O'DAAAA-RA! era AntH which is also sort of amusing.

Saw an interview, and he tried to shift blame on the shitdick director.

Squier is a faggot, he could have easily said no.

Should have been one of those videos where they are playing to an empty crowd. Had a really good backing band, I bet they are mad they hitched themselves to that.

Quick story: Tony Banks, when we were viewing the final edit for our music video on "Congo", wasn't particularly enthused. He sort of shrugged his shoulders at it after we watched it, while Mike was quietly indifferent.

Wanting to be an active participant - and ensure I didn't catch any blame from fans as the new guy - I asked Tony what he thought we could do to improve the final results. He said "We just blew a lot of money down in Malta for this, the video is the video." I said to him that it's our first single and a statement to longtime fans, it's not something to risk cocking up.

Mike, who was reading the paper the whole time, said "We weren't mincing about in it like that fucking Billy Squier video, so we'll be fine."

I Can only imagine if there was even a moment of Nana-esque prancing in that video, I probably would've never made it out of the first leg of that tour alive.

Paul Rudd should do a remake of this video like he used to do with Fallon for Spin Me Right Round and Too Much Time. Someone fire off a fax at him.

Most rock bands around that time were openly smashing gash, and singing about fucking girls and 'Murica though.

Billy Squire was wailing about someone taking him in their arms and doing the Nana prance.

I've never cared to listen to Squire, but from what in heard in that song, he's essentially the Buck Cherry or Maroon 5 of the 80s: saucy "rock" music for chicks. His saving grace is that he can hit some high notes, and he could write a riff, if you're into that sort of thing.

Gay AF though.

As I said, that video still lives in infamy to this day, even over here in Europe. It was a culmination of very bad decisions, and an example of the stupid excesses from the prime era of music video production.

But the worst part of all is the hypocrisy.

Might be a little higher praise than I'd give it, lad, but I won't argue you on it.

I have nothing but love for this man. As I said in another Billy Squier thread, back in the mid to late 1980s, the Don't Say No album was like an aphrodisiac combined with a magic trick. You popped that cassette on during a make out session and it made girls pants disappear.

And trust me, if this worked for ME, it worked for everyone.
