I wish I had more time to make this an investigative writing initiative like our friend Thomas Apostle succeeds at doing, but time isn't on my side with such an endeavor.
I'm a fairly successful musician in Europe, I'm busy. No, I'm not David Hasselhoff.
I've been thinking over the rise and fall (and rise again?) of Dan's podcast for the Brothermen, and the parallels to O&A are just too hard to ignore. By the end of it all, Dan became a strange amalgamation of the worst qualities of Opester with a bit of Nana sprinkled in.
The first thing is the sensitivity. The hard and fast rule of this place is to roll with the bit, or you won't last. When the newness of the podcast had faded, and probably around his first real criticisms, Dan was giving strong Opie vibes of defense. I even remember some of you fellas thinking it was a bit (I'm on my third Krupnik, the why you're even getting this post, you're welcome), but it didn't stop there.
Then we had the Boomia Bomb-Threat Blow-Up, and Dan, channeling Opie once again like an Exorcist, demanded @covidcumia to apologize to the Forums, Quasi, AND himself. I flashed back to Opie scolding Erock when he said "We're going to talk off the air about this."
Really needed him that day, huh?
There's numerous examples of this kind of shit, specifically the bait and switch, the mindless self-importance with the GPA reveal, and then speaking over the stream. Most of the selfish behavior hit Opie levels of ignorance, but when the emotion was really bleeding through, I could hear Nana whispering "I'm still hilarious". Not to mention thinking he was funnier than he really was, and a better broadcaster than he really was, also reeks of Anthony.
All that being stated, I still don't hate Dan. This was an interesting experiment of his, and like most experiments, it ended in failure. Any of you lads would be crazy to take up a podcast and try to improve on where Dan left off, but I credit and support you if you try. Just learn to laugh at yourself unlike he did, and maybe you won't become a lifelong inside joke.
This post was brought to you by alcohol and a lovely homemade early dinner by my gal Mal.
Oh wait, I also mentioned he was like Norton... He kinda looks like him in the face, that sort of self-hating egg whites with mustard bloat.
... I'm so sorry, Dan.
