Are the O&A years between 1994-2002 worth listening to?

I’ve just realized that for as much as I jerk myself off at being an encyclopedia of O&A autism, I don’t think I can remember a single bit from this time that i’ve listened to.

Of what I can remember from those years: The infamous The Rock walk out, some of the Di appearances from this time, and maybe some of the stories from Ants marriage / childhood from this time. Besides that my knowledge starts at 2004 onwards.

So are these years worth looking into? From what I understand (obviously) 1994-1997 is their start and filled with hack bits. So what year does it become what it was?

Won’t make a separate thread for this. Searching trying to remember what bits occurred when I found this video posted by Braunheiser:

Recap if you don’t want to watch:

Paul Mecurio is hosting a little video webshow. This episode revolves around the O&A studio, and Mecurio is wearing his “Kathleen put your goddamn clothes on” shirt from the bit he did.

Opie is the first member to show his face and he’s lookin fawwwwkin svelt. Anthony shows up next with a beer in his hand, of course. Despite this clip being 20 years old, Anthonys faggoty hand waving mannerisms are just as present. Anthony must be tipsy because he’s just sitting here bullshitting with Mecurio about nothing of interest for way too long. Cumia then bows out saying he has to go smoke. Does anyone know when Cumia quit smoking? I know Jim infamously quit after the mouth cancer guy but I don’t remember Ant talking about it.

Rick Delgado appears after returning from break and moons Mercurio. Nothing of interest but first time i’ve seen the guy on video. 3 minutes of Mercurio talking about the “Kathleen put your clothes on” bit. Is that the only thing this fag is known for?

Another break. This one returns and they enter the WNEW studio. Norton makes his first appearance. He gives a glance at Mercurio, a low “Hello…” and stares intensely at his papers not making eye contact with anyone. He’s being a BABY BOY about the camera men close to him. They pan over to Ant and he looks extra arab. I’d post a screenshot but the quality is terrible. Opie makes fun of Mercurio for having his stupid Kathleen shirt on.
Mercurio: “Hey, Mr. Assisted living socks and sandals, shut up.”
It pans over to Opies terrible, terrible retarded children shoes. This was back when Op was skating because he’s making excuses about why he’s wearing these shoes.

Back from another break and the show is on air. Norton is doing the show standing up for no reason. He shoehorns a “fucking trannys” joke. A caller shits on Mercurio, which is extremely boring. The camera pans over to Anthony who is scrolling on his computer not even contributing to the show. When he notices the camera is on him he pretends to be on the mic and interested in the show. Cue boring ass callers talking to Mercurio. This segment is uncomfortable because I don’t think O&A want to be with this guy or filmed with him like this. Anthony closes out with a goodbye.

Pretty uneventful but interesting to see the show visually around this time.

Someone on Reddit did hindsight reports on all of these years a long time ago. I think they're on thebobwhokidandsamshow or whatever the fuck it's called
I actually remember when these were being posted live. Unless i’m thinking of another retard who did hindsight reports from the show I always thought those were from the later years. Thanks nigger.

The show was better on WNEW.

- They ran the station, there was nobody to tell them "NO."
- They were younger, more driven to succeed, more energetic, faster paced.
- They had clout, so opportunities to fuck with sponsors like the WWF came up a lot.
- They actually had listeners and callers who added to the show, less truckers due to not being a national show you can get in any city. As a result, their retards were better. The show got into more situations with randoms. You had more outraged callers and females calling in to be slaughtered. There is something about a pissed off woman putting into words why a mean joke "isn't funny" that just makes it so much funnier.
- They had to play by FCC rules, which inadvertently made them more marketable and relateable. Yes, it's commonplace to listen to a podcast of someone saying "Fuck" constantly, that might be "relatable" now, but back then that kinda language in media was more of a novelty reserved for film.
- R&F were also better at this time than at any point on satellite except maybe 2005-2007.

Shit, even the sonic audio quality was better on FM... The first few years of XM sounded like absolute fucking shit because they were just running microphones into a board with no compression or voice modulating. XM refused to do it the right way. That's why the volume is too low on their voices and the show sounded half dead. The very first episode started with the music blaring over their voices, you couldn't even HEAR their first words back on radio. Glitches never really happened on WNEW-FM because it was a professional station run by engineers and producers who actually knew how to cut audio and do sound design properly, not just shoehorning little WWE theme songs like Sam.

A lot of great bits came out of the satellite era exclusively, but those great bits had to branch off of what the show was originally on FM, and i will always prefer the early days. It can be chalked up to nostalgia, but at the same time, everything I liked about the show remained present through SXM... It's just that it was watering down more every year.

Just because they confidently said "We sucked back then" doesn't mean that tells the whole story. The show suffered greatly on satellite.

Those should be called the Revisionism Report, because so much of the info in there is only relevant to little memes that were big on the subreddit back at that time. They completely leave out a LOT of foreshadowing and small moments that are funny in hindsight.

Also have to consider when O&A jocktobered their old shows, they were picking from their very first shows together, first in NYC, or stupid bits from WAAF when they only knew each other for a year or two.

The 1998 april fools with Tom Menino fake death was wonderful. They played it perfectly, it wasn't hack, and it outraged most of their peers. It got them national attention, then hired in a bigger market. I still don't understand why people other than fuddyduddies or Meninos were upset at that prank.

Then again, we are all desensitized to the apology clock being reset. Imus' nappy headed hoes comment was so banal yet they acted like he was calling for a nigger genocide. I also don't understand the Sex For Sam outrage either. There were no sex acts, it was fake, and didn't seem all that offensive compared to hip-hop or hollywood movies, when you read it on paper.

O&A also had a vested interest in acting like they were better than ever at that present moment... They were powerless at SXM, sitting in a closet, and the company only dealt with it because they inherited million dollar contracts with them that they didn't really want to honor.

Teen Voyeur Bus is one I'm surprised they survived... When you watch the news reports it really does seem like Weimar Germany. "Nude teenaged girls in a party bus, escorted by NYPD hitting their sirens to catch people's attention... Cops literally filming the bus with camcorders and cackling happily...

The more I listen to WNEW shows the more I agree with this. Yeah some of it is hack but they were not bitter faggots and enjoyed doing the show.

The reason they got in huge trouble over that was bad luck. Mayor Menino was traveling during the prank and his wife couldn't reach him by phone. So she called the police and FBI in a panic who told her "yeah we don't know if he's alive or dead either" as they were already investigating it. O&A's prank had hit every single newsroom in Boston, NYC, and Washington. And then the press started calling law enforcement and Menino's family. When their own news stations called them to confirm the news they said "just listen to our show" instead of giving a serious answer.

But they couldn't reach Menino, as his entire night was scheduled for travel with flights and car services. Had Menino not been on a delayed flight or in a taxi cab or whatever this thing would have blown over after a quick suspension. But once his family started freaking out and the government had to pull together a team to start running around the airports and pulling over taxis it became a major issue. O&A were insanely lucky not to go to jail. After surviving this it was no wonder that they felt invincible on the air.

After 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombing, Mayor Menino had to deal with the retarded faggots who put cartoon signs up all over Boston to promote some Cartoon Network show. That time he didn't mess around. Millions of dollars in fines. Lots of people from Cartoon Network including an executive had to resign. Menino wanted the guys jailed but couldn't get it. A few years later Menino hired the same marketing company to put lights all over Boston for a political show or something and paid them $50K for it as a campaign stunt.

That wasn't the problem. The issue was that they drove into a secret service car that was providing security for Bill Clinton. As their driver had taken a turn onto a blocked street that was completely roped off for President Clinton to travel through it. Once the driver went onto that street and it was entirely vacant of cars and pedestrians they knew that they had turned into the Clinton motorcade. And were going to be arrested.

They could have driven on any street in NYC and been fine. They drove on the one street that was blocked off for the Presidential motorcade. And so of course Rudy Jewliana had them all immediately arrested and thrown in a holding cell for a day. And the Secret Service and FBI once again had to deal with O&A hilariously.

Remember the years between 2000-2004. America was full of patriotism post 9/11 and W Bush continued the previous administrations efforts of “Christian values” in media, wether it was teaching god in schools or removing curse words from broadcasting. This was a time where instead of everyone clutching their pearls over PC and “woke” shit it was over family values and Christian morals. The downright edgiest thing they could do, wether they intended it to happen or not, was having sex in a church (fake or not.) Remember how hard Mancow sperged out on them for this? “HAS IT BEEN THAT MANY YEARS OF CLINTON WE ACCEPT THIS??? YOU HAVE SEX IN A CHURCH I MEAN , YOU’RE GONE! YOU DONT DESERVE TO WORK AGAIN” among other choice words. And many in the country felt the same way. Honestly even in 2023 if a podcast got two people to have sex in a church I can see the media jumping on it and everybody freaking out, except today they’d probably claim O&A were anti-Christian ANTIFA liberals doing a protest or some shit. The times were just more sensitive back then. Even if no one was having sex the thought of it caused conservative media to have a heart attack, then factor in two offensive guys airing this to the world and egging it on and of course they got fired like they did.

Like Lingerlonger said it was the logistics of the situation where they couldn’t reach Menino. But it was also a different time in general. Regardless of the mayor or his family, there were (retarded) people who listened to O&A broadcast that and genuinely believed it. It wasn’t a time where you could pick up a smartphone and search in 5 seconds if the guy was really did. You probably wouldn’t find out for real until tomorrow. I’m confident if some dumb fuck radio show today announced Biden died in the same manner they wouldn’t face the same consequences because…everyone knows Biden isn’t dead and you aren’t gonna get that breaking news from a random shock jock show. It just wouldn’t have caused a panic like it did.

But the biggest part of it was just Menino himself being upset at it. The public didn’t matter in this equation and probably forgot about the prank a week later - but you fucking know Menino didn’t. This wasn’t just some random mayor, he was one of the most powerful mayors in the country at that time. He pulled all the strings he could’ve to keep the issue alive and get O&A fired, accepting no compromises or apologies.

Yeah, I know the backstory of Menino and the Voyeur Bus. My point was more that when you watch the news stories, the Voyeur Bus sounds like something that should have had more repercussions (public nudity, public indecency, disturbing the peace, inside job with NYPD, etc.) I was surprised that people weren't offended more at it, but they were offended about stupid fat faggot Menino.

Also, kinda ridiculous how Menino over-reached and kicked guys out of the city because they offended him personally by making light of him. What is he, the fucking Queen of Boston? Fuck his fatass dopey family and their worry that he was dead. Sorry bitch, Your husband is a public figure. Fuck all of them, it was entertainment. Shit like this happens with politicians in media and the entertainers should never be silenced or punished for poking fun. Once they figured out he was alive and it was a cruel joke, get the fuck over it. You don't retaliate. Fuck Boston and fuck fat dead Menino.

I was listening to a clip of Larry King interviewing Scott Shannon and The Greaseman in the 1980s. They were speaking of some jock who had (at that time) recently joked about someone dying. Scott Shannon and Greaseman both recoiled in disgust and called it "irresponsible." Even back then, the shock jocks wouldn't cross that line.

I don't see why O&A should have gone to jail for lying about someone's death when they have no connection to that person. It was a prank that they eventually admitted. I find it funny that most of their big fuck-ups were completely accidental. They got in trouble with the federal government multiple times just because their prank happened at the exact wrong place, wrong time and ended up being more shocking than they even intended it.

O&A fell into lot of gold, but they always recognized it as it was happening and steered the ship toward the rainbow.

During the Teen Voyeur bus, when things started going south, and everyone was getting arrested, news was getting back to the studio. When O&A came back after a break, they sounded like they knew they were fired. "You and I never learn, Anthony." This was the whole vibe of the show. They kept getting dumber and dumber, they never had self reflection and never learned from their mistakes. They kept making worse and worse offensive ideas, and getting in more and more trouble. The show was a snowball effect. I'm saddened that it ended at the meaty hands of a black hooker.

I love how when they found out Guiliani himself ordered their arrests, stupid Anthony just goes "UGH... What is it with MAYORS???"

This was the era of Girls Gone Wild, Taxi Cab Confessions, and porno being shown on Cinemax at night. O&A having strippers on a bus was not really that shocking. Pam Anderson had her sex tape in the mainstream. Stuff like smut and jewish filth and pornography were basically staples of the media by then. You could get issues of like Penthouse of Hustler from your local gas station. Stern and other shock jocks had porn whores on the air all of the time getting naked.

Greaseman got fired for mocking a lynching death. And had been suspended once for mocking MLKjr.'s death. Scott and Todd did song parodies about dead celebrities. It was just like Stern being okay with making fun of the children of other jocks but cried like a little bitch when O&A went after his weirdo daughter. It was okay when they did it....but not others. As Opie always said, radio was filled with nothing but hypocrites and liars.

Like Dave Herman chastising O&A for disrespecting old rock records but meanwhile he is raping six-year-olds. No moral center.
I don't see why O&A should have gone to jail for lying about someone's death when they have no connection to that person.
Imagine someone called your house up and said that your children were dead or some other relative. And when you go to call their phones the FBI picks up and says "we are currently investigating if they are alive". But then it turns out to be a prank. You'd at least get some harassment charges or a restraining order against the person. The aggravation would be insane.

Not if they're a public figure. Yeah if you're some civilian sure. But O&A did not encourage anyone to do anything, it so happened that dopey was unreachable.
