I've read it but did not care for it. I don't know if I didn't like it because it just didn't click with me or if it was because I've been exposed to so much media that's clearly been influenced by it.

The book is an allegory for western demoralization. If you view Raskolnikov as the world at large it makes more sense. Dostoyevsky predicted the deaths of commie and fascist regimes in the late 1800s. If you like, give the Idiot a read too it's pfg

Yeah but I didn't need an E-daddy to recommend it. I read it years ago. PFG book - the hardest part is getting used to the Russian naming system. It was actually the inspiration for Columbo, too.

I finished it in my third attempt. I think it rules and you should give it another try. Early on there's a bar scene where Raskolnikov meets a guy named Marmeladov. If that scene doesn't give you anything, you probably should quit. You don't have to like Dostoevsky.
