For someone who likes to pose with books he's never read or understood,It's easy to forget that aspect of the lolsuit. It was so clearly intended as an intimidation tactic to get quasi to fold and shut down the site. I remember think at the time 'it was fun while it lasted' since I was certain quasi wouldn't wanna deal with the headache/expense of a lawsuit just to keep a website for a few hundred autists running. I'm glad he did though since we would've missed out on so much hilarity, including Apostlegate.
When you surround an army, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard
We'll never know what quasi would have done. From the brinton emails on the court website, it looks like this was the sequence of events
- Brinton and quasi's lawyer agree to the information he has and will send over to prevent an expensive quash hearing
- The information agreed upon is sent over
- Brinton objects saying its missing items even though he agreed to the terms beforehand. Essentially saying "where's all the stuff i didn't ask you for"
- Quasi's lawyer says, hey the quash is in a few days lets extend the hearing date and then meet and confer again
- Brinton says , can't do that, the hearing in wisconsin is soon and we need this information.
- Quasi's lawyer says, remove quasi as a defendant
- Again, brinton says, can't do that if he's innocent then he can prove it during the subpoena (or something)
So even if quasi didn't give a shit about any of this, even if he wanted to remain anonymous he couldn't. Adding him as a John Doe was monumentally stupid.
nice gamesmanship, stupid.
