I’m wondering if some of his “software test engineer” positions actually mean he was a video game tester. Years ago I had two roommates in LA that did this and was just playing video games and marking any mistakes. Sounds fun but pays shit. Would also explain the contract work / NDA since you’re usually on by a per project length of time and have to sign NDA’s related to the game.

Qa is the lowest in the engineering world. If you write tests ansld automate as a senior you're just under Jr devops.

Game testers are even below that. Its like tier one help desk. Basically whole week is like "walk into this mountain for 6 hours and write down the locations where the image starts clipping"
